#HandsUpFriday: Solidarity and Demand Justice for Michael Brown
We gathered in Jackson Heights, Queens to stand in solidarity with the people of Ferguson and all those who have lost lives at the hands of police brutality. As immigrants, we spoke out against the treatment and injustice of our Black colleagues, and we demand justice for those who have been wrongly killed. Racial injustice is plaguing our society, dividing the community, and creating distrust between the people and law enforcement. Police must be held accountable for their actions and reform is necessary in order to rebuild our broken justice system.

After a children’s right’s demonstration in Colobane, Dakar, everyone gathere in front of the RTS TV station to make noise and mingle for a bit, then we took all the kids back home. I met some lovely interesting people while taking these, some of them will probably feature again before I go home in October.
Activist Sara Winter poses for the picture during her anti-World Cup protest on Rio de Janeiro’s Ipanema beach, on June 9, 2014. Written on her body is the phrase “While your team is relaxing, Brazilians are dying”. Winter walks the beach talking to foreign tourists telling them that Brazilians are suffering from neglect.
